The Big Give Christmas Challenge

Can you help us ?

Like so many charities, our income has been severely hit and we have been unable to run some of our usual fundraising events.  One of the biggest is the annual Christmas Fayre which forms a large portion of our fundraising income each year, regularly raising in excess of £6000 !

We are having to do things a little differently this year and the Cancer Support Centre has applied to take part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge, the UK’s biggest online match funding campaign.

The detail.. How it will work

Phase 1 – The Cancer Support Centre raise £1000 in Pledges from key supporters         Phase 1 complete

Phase 2 – The Big Give will find a Champion who will pledge £1000 to match our pledges.    Phase 2 – awaiting confirmation

Phase 3 – During November we will be running a campaign asking all our Other Supporters to raise funds that will be donated 1st – 8th December via a specific donation page.  The amounts paid in will be matched by the pledges and the champions funds. Phase 3 – Now we need your help

Can you help with a donation ?

Maybe of what you would have spent at the Fayre or buying raffle tickets

Getting some friends together for a coffee morning or lunch for a donation

Homemade gifts or bring and buy sale

You decide what, when, and where as long as the money you raise or donate is made through the Big Give link which will be available nearer the time

When we achieve all our targets we will have raised a total of £4000 plus Gift Aid where possible.

You can find full details of the Christmas Challenge, and how your pledge will enable us to be part of the UK’s largest Matched Funding Challenge, on and we are very excited about the opportunity to take part.

I am happy to answer any questions you may have please just give me a call.

Thank you so much

What is the Christmas Challenge?

The Christmas Challenge (the UK’s biggest online match funding campaign) helps UK-registered charities to raise funds for their projects by doubling donations when the campaign goes live on 1st December. You can find full details of the Christmas Challenge, and how your pledge will enable us to be part of the UK’s largest Matched Funding Challenge, on Research shows that 84% of donors are more likely to give in a match funding campaign and that donations are on average 2.5 times bigger so we’re very excited about the opportunity to take part.

How does it work?

  • The matching pots used to double donations for charities taking part in the Christmas Challenge are made up of a combination of funds. These are funds sourced by the charity (‘Pledges’) and funds sourced by the Big Give (‘Champions’) which are available if we are successfully selected by a Champion.
  • The timeline for fulfilling the pledge (i.e. transferring the funds to us) is 9th December 2020 – 15th January 2021.
  • Fulfilment of your pledge is conditional on us receiving the appropriate online donations during the campaign (1st December – 8th December). You will only be required to pay a pro-rata amount of your pledge if we don’t hit our online target – it’s our guarantee to you that we are committed to raising additional donations.
  • Please note that if you pledge to the Cancer Support Centre, you will not be able to make an online donation to us in December because your pledge will be used to match these donations.

Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have questions about the Christmas Challenge and what being a Pledger could mean to the Cancer Support Centre.
